Phase 1 Interceptive Orthodontics can help to minimize the number of extractions required when treating orthodontic issues in children. Our Straight Smile dentists explain how Invisalign® First for Phase 1 treatment could help to transform your child's smile.
What is Phase 1 ('Interceptive') Orthodontic Treatment?
Our Straight Smile dentists use interceptive orthodontics to diagnosis and treat misaligned teeth and other orthodontics issues in children, before they have an opportunity to fully develop and become more serious.
By starting treatment between the ages of 7-11 years, when there is still a mix of baby teeth and adult teeth, dentists are able to take advantage of your child's ongoing dental development.
Phase 1 Interceptive orthodontics can help to minimize or even avoid the need for extractions when treating your child's orthodontic issue.
What are the goals of Phase 1 treatment?
Phase 1 treatment is used to correct misalignment and bite issues while the child's jaws are still developing. This allows treatment to address arch problems in order to make room for both the existing teeth and the incoming teeth.
Using this early approach to orthodontics can help to prevent pre-existing bite issues from getting worse, fix existing tooth misalignment issues, improve the appearance of a growing child’s smile, and make Phase 2 treatment easier and shorter.
